Easter Sunday 2012
(pictures coming)
This program was written for a stake children's matinee to be presented on Saturday before Easter last year. I want to incorporate it into our singing time on Sunday. It won't be exact but I'm going to use as much as I can. I will be dressed as Mary Magdalene.
The hand signs for "Jesus Is Risen" I acquired from aslpro.com. A great resource. I utilize both the main dictionary and the religious dictionary. If one the signs in either category is too complicated I can usually go to the other category and find a simpler version.
The palm leaves I made were from this website http://www.dltk-bible.com/ crafts/mpalm.htm and I was so pleased with how they turned out. They are a nice prop that I still use for other songs throughout the year that sing "Hosanna".
Here it is:
[Opening Prayer]
Easter is the very special time of year when we get to honor
Jesus and celebrate his resurrection.
Jesus loves you so much and is so glad when you remember Him at Easter
time.

When Jesus visited his friends they honored Him by waving palm leaves and
shouting “Hosanna!”
Would you honor the Savior with me by waving your palm
leaves while I sing you a song?
“HOSANNA” (sung with “ding-dong” of the music triangle)
1. First time: children listen while you sing
and ding.
2. Second time: children sing with you while
waving palm leaves and echoing your “hosannas”.
3. Third time: all together, they know what to
do now
Do you think Jesus liked that? To be treated so kindly by His friends? I think so.
And I’m glad that His friends honored him like that… because afterwards
Jesus died and His friends were sad that He wasn’t with them anymore. One of his friends’ names was Mary. She loved Jesus and wanted to take care of
His body after He died, so she went to the sepulchre where His body was
taken. Would you like Mary to tell you
what she saw there? (Yes.)
ENTER MARY (shares 1 ½ minute monologue)
(proceed immediately into next song, very slowly yet
musically)

open drapes on large side windows(?)]
JESUS HAS RISEN (with hand signs)
1. First time: sing the song for the children with the signs
2. Second time: have the children try to sing
and sign with you
3. Third:
all together (perhaps we’ll choose a senior primary member to ding
during the intro)
[Closing Prayer]
