Review Activities: Bubble Gum Ben, Olympics, Commandments
I love reviews!
Bubble Gum Ben:
Highly recommended. I just had someone sit behind him and pump air into the balloon with a hand balloon pump that will not suck the air out of the balloon while pumping it up. You'll need to lead the children, so an assistant is needed.
Singing Time Olympics:

Great fun during Olympic season last year.
Commandments Game:
I found inspiration for this game on a blog that I cannot find anymore. Thank you to whomever started me on this path and I'm sorry that I cannot give you credit for it!
I love this game.
I hauled a big, heavy rock to church and heaved it onto the table at the front of the room. I wanted the children to see how heavy and practically immovable it was to make a point.
Jesus Christ is our Rock and Salvation. He is immovable and steady and strong.
I used this review after we learned "The Wise Man and the Foolish Man". A great way to add to building your life on the "Rock" testimony.
On the back of a few commandment-shaped brown pieces of construction paper I wrote a word from a song, how to sing it, and then taped it on the rock. The child who picks the commandment from the Rock gets to be the example. If it's tricky (like in junior primary) I may invite two children to come up and do the commandment together. The commandment is known only to the one(s) who chose it. We talk about how important it is to act out the commandment the best you can so that the other children in the chairs can follow. As the children figure out what the commandment is they follow it without saying anything. They simply begin to do it. Along the way, I constantly talk about these concepts as we sing and as new people come to choose a commandment: "Who is our Rock?" "From whom do we get our commandments?" We talk about how important it is to follow the commandment the best you can so that the other children know exactly what commandment you're following and what to do. I explain to the children how Jesus Christ is our perfect example and if we follow Him we can know exactly what to do. It's fun.
These would be taped (not showing text, of course) on a big rock. |
Commandment ideas (SENIOR):
- pull earlobe on "TRY"
- flick hair on "FEEL"
- straighten tie on "COMMAND"
- fold arms on "TRUE"
- wink on "CHOOSE"
Commandment ideas (JUNIOR):
- spin on "TRY"
- jump on "FEEL"
- stomp on "COMMAND"
- clap on "TRUE"
- click tongue on "CHOOSE"
I used some of the Olympic review ideas with this one, too. Instead of choosing a name from the basket I had the children pass the Olympic torch while the pianist played a song. Whomever it landed got a turn.
